Song Stories: "Dance With Me"

"Dance With Me", holds a special place in my heart, as I think it always will. This was just one of those songs that hits you in the middle of the night, and you are either ready to receive it or you miss out.

That night the stars had aligned (lights dim to set scene). My two roommates had both left the house on a Tuesday night, and I was left alone to write. As I sat on the living room couch playing this fingerpicking melody on my guitar, a thought entered my headspace. I began to think of how many feelings one could experience while dancing. Obviously there are a few that come to mind, the "high school dance" sort of feeling, and the "club banging" sort of feeling. But there are also the "father showing his daughter how to dance" kind of feeling, or the "older gentleman spinning his wife of 50 years" kind of feeling. I knew then that I wanted to create something that any couple could relate to, no matter what their age. In that moment, the very first line came to me, "Dance with me, let me take you around my living room.". Some 10 minutes later, the song was complete. It was such a surreal experience and I will always be grateful. Moments like that don't come often.

Lyrics : Dance with me. Let me take you around my living room.
Stand on my feet. Let me whisper things I've never said to you.

And I know it's getting colder, but my hearts getting warm.
I hope and pray that when this song is done, you'll dance with me again.

Hold to me. Once the lights go out, we'll see what the moon light brings.
I will take the lead. Let me breathe life into our dreams.

And I know it's getting colder, but my hearts getting warm.
I hope and pray that when this song is done, you'll dance with me again.

Time flies, when I'm holding you. Time flies, when I'm holding you.
Yes I do.

Best,

Eric
